INTRODUCTION AND ASSESSMENT
Before we get deep into the art class, a personal introduction and assessment is essential to establish a foundation of the student’s art career and source of creative inspiration.
OBJECTIVES
To explore the students drive to want to be an artist and bring to light what matters to them through an art career. (40 minutes)
To explore the student’s abilities and to also share perspective or viewpoints with them based on the tutors personal abilities and experience. (45 minutes)
To establish a verbal foundation by exploring the strengths and weaknesses in the student’s ability to create art. (40 minutes)
To help the student loosen up and also to act as a warm up for the upcoming sessions. (25 minutes)
To create a scheduled plan for conducting the remaining classes based on the introduction and assessment taken. (30 minutes)
BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF ART
To define art according to our individual experience of life and interpret the meaning through our own abilities and creative sense.
OBJECTIVES
To explore what defines art and the creative process. (30 minutes)
To learn the benefits and also the value of art to the students life and that of the community around them. (40 minutes)
To explore and identify mentors and references that influence the student’s artistry. (30 minutes)
To define criticism in art, the effects it has on an artist’s career and the student’s personal experience of it. (40 minutes)
To identify the basic elements of art. (20 minutes)
To assign a task that explores the students’ knowledge of the Basic Elements of Art. (20 minutes)
BREAKING DOWN THE ELEMENTS OF ART
To create art; we need to first learn the tools and the methods used through the process and that means breaking each one of them down to detail.
OBJECTIVES
To define the Elements of art. (30 minutes)
To explore artworks in theory by identifying the Basic Elements of Art used in them. (30 minutes)
To show ways in which the Basic Elements of art (Color, Line, Shape, Form and Texture) are used by other artists and creatives. (40 minutes)
To engage the student in a practical exercise of each Basic Element of Art. (30 minutes)
To explore the color palette and how to use it through the creative process. (20 minutes)
To discover the students style of art and their preferred Basic Elements of art in reference to our previous study. (30 minutes)
FINDING THE ARTIST
What we need sometimes is a place that portrays art. An environment that provides a more practical example like an art gallery, a museum or any other place of art and recreation that acts as an easy source of inspiration.
OBJECTIVES
To reflect an image of what art looks like in this day and age around the community. (40 minutes)
To show the student the more expressive side of the lesson through the exploration of finished artworks and art establishments around the community. (40 minutes)
To enlighten the student on how a gallery or museum’s system works in relation with their own creativity. (30 minutes)
To discover artworks that easily connect with the student and their preferred style of art. (30 minutes)
To provide the student with a perspective or a viewpoint of what they can create in the upcoming sessions. (40 minutes)
STARTING A PAINTING
In order to create, we have to really know what it is we want to create and the tools required for us to start creating.
OBJECTIVES
To help the student discover their creative process. (30 minutes)
To explore the foundation of a painting and the different types of mediums used in creating one. (30 minutes)
To explore the sizing of an artwork; the advantages and the disadvantages in picking certain sizes. (30 minutes)
To discover the student’s creative space and what makes it easier for them to create. (30 minutes)
To engage the student in an exercise of starting a painting in line with the knowledge they’ve acquired so far. (30 minutes)
To explore how long it would take the student to create a body of work. (30 minutes)
CREATING A BODY OF WORK
Various artists are able to start working on something but to complete and stay consistent through the process is a challenge for most of them and it is essential that we identify our visions of the finished piece of art.
OBJECTIVES
To create consistency in the artists creativity. (30 minutes)
To show the student the importance of finishing their work and good presentation. (30 minutes)
To identify art blocks and what it takes to overcome them through the creative process. (30 minutes)
To explore the industries and opportunities that cater for what the student desires to offer. (30 minutes)
To identify what a niche is, to give examples and to explore what the student’s niche is. (30 minutes)
To interpret and describe their experience of becoming an artist and attending the art class. (30 minutes)
NB: Each student gets a named and signed Certificate of Accomplishment from Saviour’s Casa as appreciation and proof of full attendance of the Art class sessions.
